Interior Design for

Powder Haven Homes

The Mountain View Project →

Powder Haven is a design-driven mountain community where the best architects and architecture in the world lead. We’ve walked the most mind-boggling homes, but find that many interiors struggle to take the same role.

Welch Studio works alongside architects and builders early, so interiors find the same architectural mastery as exteriors. But this time, warmth is the goal. Gone are the days of cold modern interiors. Owners are reaching for a warm, unique and individual expression to their lives and homes. With the onslaught of artificial everything, we make a point to seek out hand hewn, hand craft and hand drawn for every project we take on.

Aligned from the Beginning

Interior decisions are most effective when made in tandem with an architect – before a builder is ever brought in. Like most architects, our approach is very site-specific – we frame Powder Mountain views. Not only captured in structural concrete and wood, but framed with design, materiality, furnishings and artwork. We help resolve floor-planning, interior materials selection, and spatial flow well in advance of stamped documents. How? With clear conceptual rendering and research before the hammer is ever swung.

Built for the Conditions

Mountain construction carries heavy constraints in climate, access and timing. Not all Utah Interior Designers are acclimated to the challenges of building on top of Powder Mountain’s terrain. Most designers are based in Salt Lake or Park City and don’t take into consideration commute times. Thus when they start a home in Powder Haven, they can’t reach the site regularly, which brings a myriad of headaches for the builders. Owners can finally depend on our Architectural Digest-vetted design studio to be local and consistent. We won’t let your build get beyond you.

Design & Build Coordination

Welch Studio frequently collaborates with High Desert Structures, a general contractor with a strong design sensibility and deep familiarity with mountain construction. This results in a more efficient process and a more resolved final outcome.

Craft

Often we create furniture pieces, textiles and artwork to fit the aesthetic of a particular mountain aesthetic. This patterned textile was woven from of an antique wallpaper remnant which was cleaned up digitally, then brought back to life tactually. It ended up being the owner’s favorite piece in the home.

“They really know their stuff when it comes to design and making sure everything is done right and up to code, which gave us a lot of peace of mind.”

– Mary, Former Client
